Our cars most-likely are our second highest investment. However, how well do you take care of your car? Most people do not know what to do after a collision or a car crash. What people do not know is that their insurance companies do not require a specific auto body repair shop to go to. You have the right to choose your own. But, at what cost? What steps would you take to make sure your car is handled by one of the best collision repair shops?
You want a shop that has mostly positive reviews both offline and online. It is one thing knowing where to go but how well do you know your shop? If it is your first time getting your car fixed up, you don’t want to just bring it to a shop right off the bat. You may want to look into the shop’s online reviews first to see how well they do. As review basics go, if negative reviews > positive reviews, that’s a no go. Obviously, you don’t want to go to a place where everyone is telling you no. Take your car away from there and go somewhere else!
You want somewhere that is accessible. Somewhere that you feel comfortable going to even without a car. If you can find a place where you can get everything done that is close to you or is accessible, why not right? In fact, most people choose to get their cars repaired somewhere close by. Most take for granted the fact that yes, those shops are near but are they cost-efficient? You have to make sure the shop you are going to can get things done properly. You do not want to go to a nearby shop where mechanics do not know what they’re doing.
3. Welcoming Atmosphere
When you enter any shop, you always want to be greeted in a kind and courteous manner. A quality shop will always make sure to set your expectations just by the way they accept you into their shop. First impressions are very important because they set the bar for the entire experience. Remember, a greeting always triggers a positive conversation. Not only does it set the mood for the entire ordeal but it also helps you to connect with the staff member at a personal level. When being walked into the shop, the staff member should always have a set of questions to ask about your car or even a basic spiel to open with.
4. Knowledgeable Staff
There is nothing worse than a staff member who doesn’t know what he or she is talking about. Find a shop that speaks your car’s language, not a shop that just wants to swallow your money. You want someone who knows every detail, every year model and every information about your car. You need someone to reaffirm your situation and actually make it easier for you to understand what your car’s situation currently is, what the estimate repair cost is, how long it will take to finish. Someone who, from the get-go, implies a firm and reassuring tone backed up by his/her knowledge on the issue.
Find a shop that offers warranties for the parts you purchase from them. Getting your car fixed isn’t cheap. In fact, your car is most likely your second highest investment. Parts don’t come cheap either. Get a quote, ask for a warranty. These are the basic things to do when getting your car fixed. See what the warranty covers and how long it lasts. Most warranties last for a year while some stay for 2-3 years. Warranties may differ from shop to shop. You just have to hit the hub – the right shop for your car.
6. Repair Strategy
Ask them to draw, elaborate or propose a strategy of repair for the damages on your car. Good auto body repair or collision repair shops can give you an in-depth presentation of what is to be done on your car. Having a plan-of-action shown or explained to you is very important because the shop proves that they know what they’re doing. Also, don’t hesitate to ask questions when you don’t understand. You have the right to know what is going to take place. There are certain repair procedures for each car part that is broken. You can search online for the most common procedure for the parts that are broken and check to see if their mechanics would do something similar.
Here are some questions you can ask:
- How much is my deductible?
- If my frame is bent can my vehicle still be repaired?
- Will you be able to match the original paint on my car?
- Will the parts align with the rest of the vehicle?
- Are the airbags replaced?
- What if damage is found during the repair that is not on the original estimate?
- What do I do if my vehicle is not drive-able?
- Will I be provided with a rental car?
- How long will repairs take?
